Proviron (Mesterolone) – benefits, contraindications.

Proviron is one of the oldest anabolic androgenic steroids on the market. A product of the giant pharmaceutical factory Schering, it first appeared in 1934. Officially known as Mesterolone, it has been marketed under many brands over the years, but the Proviron name has always remained dominant. It remains one of the most misunderstood anabolic steroids among steroid users.

In many ways, Proviron is a truly unique anabolic steroid. It has strong similarities to Masteron (Drostanolone) and to some extent Anavar (Oxandrolone) and Winstrol (Stanozolol), but overall it is a unique animal. In terms of performance, Proviron is not meant to increase body weight, although it can serve an important purpose during such a training phase. However, we will see that Proviron is used much more often in cutting cycles, but its purpose will again be somewhat unique.

Advantages of the Proviron

The main function of Proviron (the active ingredient is mesterolone) is to increase erectile function and thus function excellently. A drug with moderate androgenic activity is not considered a means of blocking the conversion of testosterone to estrogen: it cannot stop aromatization. However, Proviron has a number of other positive properties:

  • prevents water retention in tissues;
  • practically non-toxic to the liver and other organs;
  • the flavoring process does not start during use;
  • inhibits the production of globulin, which binds male sex hormones;
  • without negative consequences for the body, it becomes an additional tool in the process of taking anabolic steroids.

The most common use of the drug is to counteract the side effects of anabolic agents, including negative effects on the functioning of the male reproductive system.

The effects of Proviron are often supplemented with other medicines, as self-administration of anabolic agents is not enough to effectively increase muscle mass. By incorporating Trenbolone and Nandrolone into the complex, the athlete achieves the desired results in relieving a beautiful body by increasing libido.

As for muscle relief, Proviron also has a positive effect on the regulation of muscle estrogen receptors. The amount of fluid in the body decreases, leading to a dryness effect. Therefore, bodybuilders often take it just before competition. In addition, overdose of the drug is practically impossible due to the low concentration of active substances.

Who should not take Proviron

The drug is one of the safest in the field of sports nutrition, but it is reserved for men. For women, the remedy is categorically contraindicated, since the consequences may be the most negative (increased voice and facial features, increased hair growth in unwanted places). It can also increase blood pressure, baldness, and skin rashes. Taking the drug is fraught with infertility in women.

Proviron Side effects

Proviron belongs to a group of androgens. Its use can cause side effects such as:

  • increased skin fat, accompanied by inflammatory manifestations;
  • increased density of hair on the body and face;
  • hair loss on the head (in cases where there is a genetic predisposition).

Similar effects occur in men who take the drug. Their manifestations are likely to increase with increasing drug dose. It is also important to note that Proviron is a derivative of DHT and drugs such as finasteride, proscare or dutasteride are unable to reduce its androgenic effects.

Although Proviron has all the androgenic side effects, it is not characterized by estrogen. The substance is an active aromatase inhibitor and acts as an anti-estrogen in the body, reducing the side effects of other compounds due to a mechanism that reduces the total level of estrogen in the circulating plasma. Due to its strong androgenic nature and antiestrogenic effects, Proviron has been used medicinally to treat gynecomastia and breast cancer after several studies.

Proviron is not recommended for use in women as it can cause virilization. Virilization is the development of unusual male traits in the female body.

Proviron is not C-17 alpha-alkylated but is methylated at the first carbon atom. Due to this structure, the substance does not cause hepatotoxicity when ingested, as shown by numerous studies. Therefore, taking Proviron has no negative effects on the liver.

However, the drug has a negative effect on the cardiovascular system. In the study of this effect, it was established with certainty that the use of Proviron 100 mg daily for 6 months had a significant negative effect on cholesterol levels, with the percentage of LDL (bad cholesterol) rising to 65% and HDL at 65%. (good cholesterol) drops to 35%.

Proviron is also believed to have the ability to suppress the production of endogenous natural testosterone, although this effect is extremely insignificant. For example, a dose of 150 mg or less per day of the drug does not lead to inhibition of natural testosterone, but higher concentrations (above 300 mg) can reduce its levels.
